Lake Toya family onsen: Sun Palace or Kohantei?

Fix one Lake Toya night, then compare the same dates and real ages: Sun Palace only when Water Land operates for the stay, or Kohantei with a verified lake-view room and shared ninth-floor onsen, including meals, taxes, shuttle and cancellation.

Compare both booking options
The author’s own Lake Toya sightseeing-boat photograph, not Toya Sun Palace or Toya Kohan Tei
The author rode the Lake Toya sightseeing boat several times and ate at a separate onsen-town restaurant, but stayed at neither target hotel. This image proves no room, Water Land operation, onsen, meal, shuttle, inventory or Trip.com order.

Begin only after choosing the same Lake Toya night and keeping one hotel. Enter identical check-in and check-out dates, room count and every guest’s real age on the two exact English Trip.com property pages. Then match the property ID, official name and address, complete room, bed, capacity, lake- or mountain-view wording, Water Land operation on the real date, shared ninth-floor baths, non-smoking status, meals, Hokkaido and applicable municipal accommodation taxes, bathing tax, shuttle, payment and cancellation. The author has visited Lake Toya but stayed at neither target, so the owned photographs remain lake-area context rather than hotel reviews.

TWO OWNED LAKE TOYA RECORDS, ZERO STAYS AT EITHER HOTELThe author has been to Lake Toya but stayed at neither hotel

These two owned records establish only a Lake Toya activity and a separate onsen-town meal. The author did not stay at either target and did not use either room, Water Land, shared ninth-floor bath, buffet or shuttle. Fixed facility boundaries come from the current hotel pages; date-specific operation, room rights, availability, taxes, payment and cancellation come from the complete selected Trip.com rate and a matching written property reply.

Lake Toya sightseeing boat — ridden several times by the author

The author rode the sightseeing boat several times and recorded a summer Nakajima stop. This proves a Lake Toya visit, not a stay at Toya Sun Palace or Toya Kohan Tei, and proves no target room, Water Land operation, onsen, meal, child policy, shuttle, inventory or Trip.com order.

Boyotei in Lake Toya Onsen — eaten twice by the author

The author ate twice at Boyotei, a separate restaurant in the onsen town. This is not either hotel’s buffet, room, service, shuttle, accommodation tax, bathing tax or current rate inclusion.

Firsthand evidence is limited to separate Lake Toya boat rides and meals at another restaurant. The author stayed at neither Toya Sun Palace nor Toya Kohan Tei. Fixed identity, room and facility boundaries come from current first-party pages. Date-specific operation, room rights, inventory, inclusions, taxes, payment and cancellation come only from equal-condition English Trip.com rates and matching written property replies.

01

Start with one fixed Lake Toya night and keep one hotel

This is not an upstream Lake Shikotsu-versus-Lake Toya decision or a ranking of every Lake Toya hotel. Use it only after fixing one Lake Toya night. Enter the same check-in, check-out, room count and every guest's real age on both exact Trip.com property pages; unequal dates, meals or cancellation make room totals incomparable.

Keep both pages open while comparing and retain only one room before payment. Put the property ID, English name, address, full room, beds, occupancy, lake or mountain view, Water Land operation, shared onsen, meals, Hokkaido and municipal taxes, bathing tax, shuttle, payment and cancellation on one sheet. This guide fixes no price, rating, ranking, discount, date or remaining inventory.

02

Quick split: verify the pool date first, or choose the onsen-town bath route

If a large indoor water facility is essential, start by reopening Sun Palace's current renovation notice. Do not pay because Trip.com still displays a pool icon when the actual stay falls inside a full Water Land closure, the available hours miss the itinerary, or the property cannot give matching confirmation. Check the room and total only after the date gate passes.

If the pool is not essential and the plan favours Toyako Onsen town plus the ninth-floor shared public and open-air baths, start with Kohantei. A lake view must still appear in the complete room; the hotel name cannot upgrade a mountain-view, no-special-view or assigned room. When both qualify, compare complete rates and keep one.

It is not Toya Kohan Tei, a Lake Toya hotel list, the author’s stay, official direct booking, a Water Land ticket, proof that Water Land operates on your dates, a fireworks promise, transport, a shuttle seat, an in-room onsen, meals, price or inventory guarantee.

Ad|Trip.comCheck complete Toya Sun Palace rooms for your dates

Enter the real check-in and check-out dates, room count and every guest’s real age. Match property ID 706073, Toya Sun Palace Resort & Spa, the official 7-1 Toyako Onsen, Sobetsu address, complete room name, beds or futons, capacity, area, window, non-smoking status, lake-view wording, private bathroom, meals, children, Water Land operation on the real dates, Hokkaido accommodation tax, any applicable municipality-level tax shown by official or checkout evidence, bathing tax, tax-inclusive total, payment and cancellation. Trip.com currently displays postal code 052-0107 while the official hotel site displays 049-5731; use the exact property ID, official navigation address, confirmation and matching written property reply rather than silently choosing one postal code. The official hotel says all rooms are lake-view, but that does not guarantee a floor, fireworks, Mount Yotei, balcony or in-room onsen. Private bathroom and hotel-level hot springs are not an in-room onsen. If the real stay overlaps the official Water Land closures of November 2–December 18, 2026 or January 18–February 28, 2027, or if the reopening date changes, do not pay for a pool-dependent stay. A Trip.com room does not reserve the separate Sapporo shuttle; the hotel requires a post-booking inquiry and may be full. If you keep Sun Palace, remove Kohantei for the same night.

03

Firsthand boundary: Lake Toya visits, zero target-hotel stays

The author has ridden the Lake Toya sightseeing boat several times and eaten twice at Boyotei in the onsen town. Those two owned records establish that she visited the lake and that a cruise, a third-party restaurant and a room are separate dates, places and payment contracts even when they appear in one itinerary.

She stayed at neither Toya Sun Palace nor Toya Kohan Tei and did not use these rooms, Water Land, ninth-floor baths, buffets, children's facilities, shuttles or winter roads. The owned photographs cannot become hotel exteriors, room views, cleanliness, service, inventory, Trip.com orders or rankings.

The author’s older people-free outdoor-deck photograph from another Lake Toya sightseeing-boat ride
An older deck photograph from another Lake Toya boat trip; not either hotel and no promise of the current vessel, seating, timetable, fare or accessible area.
The author’s photograph of the wake after departing on another Lake Toya sightseeing-boat ride
The wake proves a separate boat ride only; it does not prove either hotel shuttle, room view, fireworks, weather or visibility for the travel date.
The author’s photograph of clear shallow water and stones at the Lake Toya shore on another visit
This shore photograph is not a hotel bath, Water Land pool or permitted swimming area and proves no water quality or safety for another date.
The author’s photograph of Lake Toya and birds during another sightseeing-boat ride
This separate boat scene is not a hotel activity, feeding permission, guaranteed wildlife sighting or travel-date experience.
The author’s Lake Toya landscape photograph from another onsen-town restaurant visit
This lake landscape was taken during another meal outing; it is not a view from either target room and guarantees no weather, floor, direction or visibility.
The author’s older photograph of tarako pasta personally eaten at the separate Boyotei restaurant
This dish was eaten at Boyotei, not either target hotel. It proves no hotel meal, rate inclusion, current menu, price, portion or availability.

Confirm two identities: Sobetsu 7-1 and Toyako 7-8 are separate orders

For Sun Palace, match Trip property ID 706073, Toya Sun Palace Resort & Spa and Sobetsu Toyakoonsen 7-1. For Kohantei, match property ID 1646999, Toya Kohan Tei and Toyako Toyakoonsen 7-8. A Lake Toya label does not make them one municipality, entrance, desk, room inventory, bath, restaurant, tax scope or confirmation.

Current Trip.com and official Sun Palace pages show different postal codes, so do not merge them silently; use the official address and matching written property confirmation. Search results, reviews, photographs, coupons, old slugs, neighbouring buildings or same-group hotels cannot replace the property ID and full room on one confirmation.

05

Sun Palace rooms: all-room lake view does not add floor, fireworks or private onsen

The official site describes all rooms as lake-view and separates Japanese, Western and Japanese-Western layouts; individual Western and modern Japanese pages publish occupancy, area and non-smoking details. These fixed boundaries do not add a bed, floor, balcony, fireworks, Mt Yotei, meal or child capacity to the complete Trip.com room for a particular date.

A private bathroom, bathtub, shared hotel onsen or lake-view photograph does not establish private in-room onsen. Keep only wording that appears in the complete room, rate and confirmation. If a specific bed, upper floor, accessible layout, connecting room or bath is essential and matching written confirmation is unavailable, change rooms rather than infer it from the hotel description.

06

Water Land is a date gate, not a permanent room inclusion

The current renovation notice lists full Water Land closures from November 2 through December 18, 2026 with planned reopening at 14:00 on December 19, and from January 18 through February 28, 2027 with planned reopening at 14:00 on March 1. It also says schedules may change. These windows stop a pool-essential purchase; they do not guarantee every other date.

Before payment and departure, reopen the pool page and latest notice for the actual date, hours, child height or age rules, swimwear, towels, rental items, equipment closure and guest eligibility. A Trip.com pool icon, an old review or the phrase family resort cannot override an official closure, and a room order does not include every slide, facility or item.

07

Kohantei rooms: Japanese-Western lake view differs from lake- or mountain-side Japanese rooms

Kohantei's official room page says Japanese-Western rooms face Lake Toya, while Japanese rooms divide into lake and Mt Usu sides. Current Trip.com cards also separate lake-view, mountain-view, no-special-view and room-assigned-at-check-in options. When lake view is essential, select only a full room and confirmation that say it explicitly.

The official site describes guest rooms as non-smoking, but still match the complete room, designated smoking-area needs and confirmation. A private bathroom states only a room-bath boundary, not natural-onsen water or private open-air bathing. Beds, futons, children's robes, meals and bedding follow the real ages and selected rate.

08

Shared ninth-floor onsen, meals and children remain separate from the room

Kohantei's ninth-floor public and open-air baths are shared facilities rather than private room onsen, and its first-floor footbath has a December-through-April suspension condition. Sun Palace likewise separates its rooms, shared onsen and Water Land. Recheck cleaning, gender operation, hours, tattoo rules, assistance and child bathing before the stay.

Even when both properties surface buffet plans, confirm breakfast, dinner, child meals, seating time, last entry, drinks, allergies and cross-contact on each complete rate. Enter every child's real age and align beds or futons, meals and additional charges in the same order. A family-resort impression never proves that every room accepts every party.

09

Compare taxes and shuttles by the two real addresses

Use the same dates, rooms, guests, meals and cancellation tier before comparing checkout totals. Sun Palace is in Sobetsu and Kohantei is in Toyako Town, so confirm Hokkaido accommodation tax, the actual municipality's accommodation tax and bathing tax by the travel date and property address. A page headline may omit charges collected on site.

Neither room automatically includes a shuttle seat. Sun Palace's Sapporo bus is reservation-only; Kohantei transport can be full or suspended and its booking route can affect eligibility. List JR, scheduled bus, parking, fuel, dinner arrival deadline and cancellation separately. A transport image or hotel room confirmation is not an accepted shuttle reservation.

10

Final order: date gate, exact view, shared baths, taxes, transport, one room

Before paying, recheck the property ID, English name, address, dates, real ages, full room, beds, occupancy, lake, mountain, no-special or assigned wording, non-smoking status, private bathroom, Water Land operation, ninth-floor shared baths, meals, Hokkaido and municipal taxes, bathing tax, tax-inclusive total, payment and cancellation. Stop when an essential condition is absent from the room, rate, travel-date notice or matching answer.

After choosing Sun Palace, remove Kohantei for the same night; after choosing Kohantei, remove Sun Palace. Save JR, bus, shuttle, parking, meals, boat and fireworks confirmations separately. This page promises no date-specific price, inventory, pool, view, fireworks or transport and never treats an affiliate click, page view, rating or review as a booking, revenue or author experience.

FAQ

Hotel comparison FAQ

Did the author stay at Toya Sun Palace or Toya Kohan Tei?

No. The author rode the Lake Toya sightseeing boat on separate dates and ate at a different onsen-town restaurant, but stayed at neither hotel. Those owned records prove no room, Water Land, onsen, meal, service, shuttle, inventory or Trip.com order.

Does a Sun Palace room always include usable Water Land access?

No. The official site publishes full closure and planned reopening windows and says schedules can change. Reopen the latest official notice before payment and departure. If the pool is essential and the actual date or access cannot be confirmed, stop.

Does every Sun Palace room guarantee lake view, fireworks and an in-room onsen?

The official site describes all rooms as lake-view, but that does not guarantee floor, fireworks, Mt Yotei, balcony or in-room onsen. Keep only rights written into the complete selected room and confirmation. A private bathroom and the hotel's shared onsen are not private in-room onsen.

Does every Kohantei room face the lake and have a private open-air onsen?

No. Official Japanese-Western rooms are lake-view, while Japanese rooms divide into lake and Mt Usu sides; Trip.com also surfaces mountain, no-special-view and assigned rooms. The ninth-floor public and open-air baths are shared onsen, and a private bathroom does not become private open-air onsen.

How should I compare the two real stay totals?

Use identical dates, rooms, real ages, complete room, meals and cancellation. Then apply the actual Sobetsu or Toyako Town address to accommodation and bathing taxes and add transport separately. Compare tax-inclusive checkout totals and keep one room.

Safe travels.
