This guide starts after you have already decided to spend one specific night at Lake Toya. It compares one complete room contract at The Windsor Hotel TOYA with one at The Lake Suite Ko No Sumika. We have stayed at neither hotel. Start with one fixed Lake Toya night
Use this comparison only after choosing Lake Toya over Sapporo, Noboribetsu or Lake Shikotsu for one specific night. Write down the real dates, room count, every guest’s age, luggage, arrival transport, bath requirement, meals and next morning’s first commitment.
Windsor and Ko No Sumika occupy the same night but create separate room contracts. Keep both pages open while comparing, then retain only one order for the same travellers and night. Never move a view, open-air bath, restaurant or shuttle right from one hotel to the other.
The 30-second answer
Start with Windsor if you want a mountaintop resort and need to choose explicitly between Lake Toya-side and Pacific Ocean-side room wording, while treating shared onsen, pool, spa and restaurants as separate hotel facilities. It is not a lakeside onsen-town base, and not every room faces the lake or has a private onsen.
Start with Ko No Sumika if lake view plus an in-room open-air onsen is a required room-level condition. The official site currently applies those features to its four room categories, but you must still match the complete Trip.com room, beds, occupancy, meals and confirmation before payment.

Firsthand boundary: Lake Toya visits, zero hotel stays
The author has ridden the Lake Toya sightseeing boat several times, disembarked on the island in summer and eaten twice at Boyotei in the onsen town. These owned records show that lake activities, lunch, check-in and the evening can compete for the same day.
We have stayed at neither hotel and have not compared their beds, soundproofing, room views, baths, meals, service or shuttles. The owned photographs are not hotel images. Fixed differences come from official information, while inventory and payment conditions come from the selected Trip.com rate.
Confirm two names, IDs and addresses
For Windsor, match Trip property ID 711304, The Windsor Hotel TOYA, Vignette Collection and 336 Shimizu in Toyako. For Ko No Sumika, match property ID 30149326, The Lake Suite Ko No Sumika and 7-1 Toyakoonsen in Sobetsu.
Both are sold as Lake Toya stays, but they are not the same municipality, entrance, parking area, bus stop or dining contract. Put the previous stop, luggage, JR Toya Station, bus or rental car and next-day route on a real map before comparing rooms.
Windsor rooms: Casual, Premier, lake and ocean stay separate
Windsor separates Lake Toya-side and Pacific Ocean-side rooms and also distinguishes Casual and Premier categories. Accept a lake view only when the complete selected room and confirmation explicitly establish it; the hotel’s Lake Toya location does not make every room lake-facing.
Room sizes, beds, bathrooms and category benefits differ. Sansen is a shared onsen, not an in-room natural hot spring. A suite label, bath photograph, translated summary or random-room rate cannot create a view, bed or private-onsen right.
Windsor facilities and shuttle need separate checks
The hotel presents Sansen, Crystal Blue Club, spa, fitness and restaurants as separate facilities. Recheck operating hours, maintenance, age, clothing, tattoo and health rules for the travel date instead of assuming every facility is available throughout the stay.
Breakfast and dinner count only when the complete rate includes them. The JR Toya Station shuttle requires a travel-date timetable and reservation confirmation. A room order is not a shuttle seat, restaurant reservation, rail ticket or guarantee against snow and weather disruption.
Ko No Sumika rooms: match one of the four official categories
The official site currently lists all four room categories as lake-view rooms with an open-air onsen: Terrace, Garden Terrace, Universal Terrace and Corner Terrace. Their area, beds and maximum occupancy differ, so a shared feature does not replace the exact sleeping arrangement.
Trip.com room labels can be shorter than the official category names. If the selected card does not match clearly, ask the property to confirm the formal category, beds and open-air onsen in writing. A lake view never guarantees fireworks, clear weather, no obstruction or a particular floor.
Ko No Sumika dining, shared baths and bus are separate
Official dining information separates Japanese kaiseki at The Toya from half buffet arrangements at the Sun Palace main building. Count only the meal written into the selected rate and confirmation, then recheck seating, child meals, allergies and dining time.
Shared open-air baths, large baths, sauna, Sun Palace facilities and the free bus have their own operating and reservation conditions. An in-room open-air onsen does not automatically include every shared facility, meal, water facility or bus seat.
Compare one real total under equal conditions
Enter exactly the same dates, rooms and real ages on both property pages. Align the complete room, view, bed, meal plan and cancellation tier. Do not compare a basic random Windsor room-only rate with a Ko No Sumika room that includes an open-air onsen and two meals.
Then add tax, rail, bus, rental car, parking, shuttle reservation and next-day movement. Compare the tax-inclusive total and payment timing, not a search-page starting price, rating, ranking, review count or remaining-room message. Dynamic values are valid only at checkout.
Final payment order: confirm, then keep one room
