Fix one Lake Shikotsu night before comparing two rooms
This guide begins after choosing Lake Shikotsu for the same night. It does not compare Lake Toya, Jozankei, Chitose city or day-use bathing, and it does not rank hotels from random-date teaser prices.
Open the two exact Trip.com pages with the same dates, room count, display currency and every guest’s real age. Compare one complete room on each side, then keep only one room before payment.
Thirty-second answer: town-side room choice or remote shared natural bath
Open Mizu first when the hot-spring-town location, several clearly separated bath-room categories and a separately reserved Chitose Liner fit the route. The exact room, not the hotel icon, decides whether the bath is onsen.
Open Marukoma first when the separate lakeside setting, shared foot-source natural bath and reserved bus-terminal pickup fit the trip. That natural bath does not remove the need to verify the room side, air conditioning, meals and transfer.

A private ONSEN bath and air-bubbles bath (NOT ONSEN) are different room contracts; neither the property name nor an open-air-bath phrase changes that. Owned evidence is real, but it belongs to a third hotel and another winter visit
The author stayed at Shikotsuko Daiichi Hotel Suizantei and separately visited Lake Shikotsu in winter. Those records explain why dinner timing, cold-weather movement and transport confirmations matter.
The author stayed at neither Mizu No Uta nor Marukoma Onsen. Suizantei’s room bath and transfer cannot prove either target, while an ice-festival visit cannot guarantee roads, buses, snow, temperature or lake conditions for your dates.
Build one fair Trip.com comparison before reading the total
Match ID 705317 for Mizu and ID 2988241 for Marukoma before opening the complete room cards. Ignore ratings, rankings, crossed-out prices, low-inventory messages and property-level amenity icons.
Align capacity, beds or futons, view side, air conditioning, bathroom, meals, children, taxes, payment and cancellation. A room-only refundable rate and a two-meal non-refundable rate are not comparable totals.
Mizu rooms: onsen, non-onsen bubbles and standard rooms are separate
The official room page divides private ONSEN rooms from air-bubbles baths marked NOT ONSEN and from standard rooms. A room can have an open-air jet bath without natural hot-spring water.
Read the complete room name and confirmation for area, capacity, view and exact bath wording. The hotel’s shared hot spring, a photograph or an amenity icon cannot promote a standard or non-onsen bath into a private onsen.
Mizu meals, dog room and Chitose Liner need matching confirmations
Trip.com’s general Mizu page currently contains conflicting breakfast presentation, and its generic pet rule conflicts with an official named dog-room exception. Count breakfast or a dog stay only when the complete selected rate and matching property reply preserve it.
The Chitose Liner has advance-reservation and seat limits on the current official page. Recheck the actual-date deadline, direction and stop. A room booking is not a confirmed shuttle seat or a flight connection.
Marukoma rooms: lake side, mountain side and cooling cannot be merged
Marukoma’s official page separates lake-side Japanese and Japanese-Western layouts from mountain-side Japanese rooms. Capacity, beds or futons and view belong to the complete selected room.
The official page says mountain-side Japanese rooms do not have air conditioning. Generic Trip.com property text saying rooms are air-conditioned does not erase that room-level warning; obtain matching written confirmation if cooling is essential.
Marukoma’s natural bath and transfer remain shared separate contracts
The foot-source natural open-air bath, panoramic open-air bath and indoor bath are shared facilities, not private in-room onsen. The official page says the natural bath depth changes with Lake Shikotsu’s water level, so reopen current operation before arrival.
Public transport reaches the Lake Shikotsu bus terminal, then Marukoma’s hotel pickup requires a reservation. A room order does not confirm pickup, a private bath slot, road conditions or bath availability.
Compare the real total: meals, children, taxes, transport and cancellation
Use the same display and payment currency and compare the tax-inclusive checkout total for equal guests, meals and cancellation. Add children, bedding, Hokkaido accommodation tax, any bathing tax or on-site amount, dietary supplements and transport.
Do not freeze a price, discount, rating, review count or inventory warning in this guide. A free shuttle still requires a valid reservation, and a lake-side room does not guarantee weather, visibility or a particular floor.
Final gate: save one room confirmation and one transport confirmation
Before payment, match the property ID, English name, address, complete room, bath wording, side, cooling, capacity, beds, meals, taxes, payment and cancellation. Stop if an essential entitlement disappears from checkout or confirmation.
