Choose one terminal-night room by next-day terminal, walking route, exact bed, onsen access and cancellation. Compare equal dates and guests, then keep only one airport hotel.
This guide starts after you have decided to spend one final night inside the New Chitose Airport terminal complex. It compares one complete room at Air Terminal Hotel on the domestic side with one at Portom International Hokkaido on the international side. We have stayed at neither hotel. Search both exact Trip.com pages with the same dates, room count and real guest ages, then verify the full room, beds, smoking policy, meals, onsen access, taxes, cancellation and route to the correct airline counter before keeping one booking.
Each record below establishes only the experience named on its card. It is not a review, booking confirmation or evidence of rooms, baths, meals, transport or views at either target property.
The author ate standing sushi on the domestic terminal’s second floor before security. This proves only a separate airport meal and location; it is not a stay, room, breakfast, onsen, international-terminal route or flight-process guarantee for either hotel.
The author once arrived early by JR and ate after domestic security. This is not a stay at either hotel and does not prove current first-train timing, airline deadlines, international access, breakfast or room quality.

Start with one fixed airport night
Use this comparison only after deciding not to sleep in Sapporo, Chitose Station or Lake Shikotsu on the final night. Record the real dates, every guest’s age, room count, next flight, domestic or international terminal, checked baggage and the operating airline’s deadlines before opening both hotel pages.
Air Terminal Hotel and Portom are inside the airport complex but are not the same building, entrance or order. Keep both pages open while comparing, then retain only one room for the same travellers and night. Never move one hotel’s room or facility right to the other.
The 30-second answer
Start with Air Terminal Hotel for a next-day domestic flight when reducing the domestic-terminal luggage route is the priority. Its official access uses domestic-side entrances, but room categories can differ by runway or parking side, beds and smoking status, so select the exact room.
Start with Portom for a next-day international departure or when its larger named room, non-smoking policy and in-house guest onsen matter more. It is farther from JR and the domestic terminal. Decide with equal room, meal, total and cancellation terms rather than star rating or a search-page starting price.

The hotel currently directs guests to domestic-terminal entrances beside Arrival Gate 5 and Departure Gate E, with an official estimate of about five minutes from JR. Onsen use requires a front-desk ticket after check-in and before check-out and remains subject to operating, age, tattoo and terminal-closing rules. After choosing Air Terminal Hotel, remove Portom for the same night.
Firsthand boundary: airport meals, zero hotel stays
The author ate at 57 Ban Sushi before domestic security and, on another trip, arrived early by JR and ate at Chaya Bimi Chitose after security. Those records show that trains, luggage, security and breakfast compete for time on departure morning, and that before- and after-security businesses are not interchangeable.
We have stayed at neither hotel and have not compared their beds, soundproofing, breakfast, onsen, service or views. The owned photographs are not hotel images. Fixed hotel facts come from official information, payment conditions from the selected Trip.com rate and flight deadlines from the airline.
One airport still has two different hotel routes
Air Terminal Hotel is on the domestic side, with official domestic-terminal entrances beside Arrival Gate 5 and Departure Gate E. Portom is on the fourth floor of the international terminal, reached through the connecting route from JR or the domestic side.
Straight-line distance does not show floors, lifts, luggage, opening hours or wrong turns. The Air Terminal FAQ also warns that the terminal is not open around the clock. Recheck the travel-date route and contact the hotel if a door or connecting path is unavailable; never cross a security boundary without airport instructions.
Air Terminal rooms: bed, side and smoking status all matter
The official room list separates several runway-side and parking-side categories, with different bed layouts and smoking conditions. A hotel at the airport does not make every room runway-facing. Confirm the complete room, beds, width, occupancy, extra bed, area, side, smoking status and bathroom.
Do not select from photographs or the word twin alone. Enter real child ages and verify meal inclusion, tax-inclusive total, payment and cancellation. If runway view or non-smoking is essential and the complete room does not state it, exclude that rate rather than treating it as a request already accepted.
Portom rooms: one 43-square-metre category is not every result
Portom currently describes the property as non-smoking and publishes a 43-square-metre Superior Room plus larger suites. Trip.com availability changes by date, so the complete selected result must establish the room, bed, area, occupancy and bathroom; do not transfer a suite photograph or size to a basic result.
Art, dining and suite descriptions are hotel-level information, not automatic room inclusions. Count breakfast, dinner, a particular view or floor only when the full rate and matching confirmation say so. An unconfirmed request is not a guaranteed contract right.
The next flight chooses the route, not a later airline deadline
Air Terminal’s domestic-side position can shorten part of a domestic departure route. Portom’s international-side position can shorten part of an international departure route. The hotels publish estimates from JR and between terminals, but lifts, baggage, crowds and unfamiliar routes require added time.
These estimates end at a hotel entrance, not at check-in, bag drop, security or the boarding gate. Keep every operating-airline deadline unchanged, then work backwards through hotel check-out, lifts, breakfast and walking. Airport accommodation cannot make a flight wait.
The two onsen contracts are not interchangeable
Air Terminal Hotel currently directs registered guests to collect a ticket after check-in and before check-out for New Chitose Airport Onsen, about a separate walk away. Recheck last entry, age, tattoo, intoxication, diaper and terminal-closing conditions. This is not an in-room or in-house Air Terminal bath.
Portom’s onsen and gym are inside the hotel and limited to registered Portom guests under their own hours and rules. That right does not transfer to Air Terminal guests, and an Air Terminal airport-onsen ticket proves nothing about Portom. Confirm that arrival and departure times leave a usable window.
Compare one real total under equal conditions
Enter the same check-in, check-out, room count and real ages on both pages, then choose comparable beds and meals. Record the tax-inclusive total, payment timing, cancellation, check-in, luggage and next-terminal walking route. A small Air Terminal room and a Portom suite do not answer which costs less.
Search prices, discounts, ratings and remaining-room messages change. If totals are close, terminal and bed can lead; if they differ, value breakfast, onsen timing, walking and cancellation in your own budget. Align the room contract first and ignore a starting price that cannot complete the stay.
Final payment order: flight, terminal, room, then one booking
First save the operating airline’s terminal and deadlines. Second search both hotels under equal stay conditions. Third compare only rooms that fit the real travellers, beds, smoking requirement, meals and cancellation. Fourth walk the route from JR or arrival transport to the hotel, then from the room to the airline counter.
Finally pay for Air Terminal Hotel or Portom, not both, and save the complete room, total and confirmation. If you briefly hold refundable options, set a cancellation reminder and preserve the cancellation receipt after choosing. Two hotel orders are not flight-disruption insurance.

Have you stayed at Air Terminal Hotel or Portom?
No. The author has eaten before and after domestic security and once arrived early by JR, but has not stayed at either hotel or compared their rooms, breakfast, onsen, soundproofing, service or views.
Are both hotels in the same terminal with the same route?
No. Air Terminal Hotel has domestic-side entrances beside Arrival Gate 5 and Departure Gate E. Portom is on the international terminal’s fourth floor and requires the connecting route from JR or the domestic terminal. Recheck doors, lifts and terminal access for the travel date.
Do both hotels use the same onsen?
No. Air Terminal guests currently obtain a ticket from the front desk and walk to New Chitose Airport Onsen under separate conditions. Portom has guest-only onsen facilities inside the hotel. Hours and eligibility cannot be transferred between them.
Does sleeping inside the airport let me check in for my flight later?
No. A hotel can shorten part of the ground route but cannot change airline check-in, bag-drop, security or boarding deadlines. Work backwards from the operating airline’s real rules and add check-out, lifts, breakfast, luggage and walking time.
How should I compare the real total?
Use the same dates, rooms and real ages. Align the actual beds, smoking status, meals and cancellation, then add any transport or unused-breakfast cost. Keep one hotel for the same night and save the chosen confirmation plus any cancellation receipt.
